The Altar Server Society in 2002.

The Altar Server Society at St. Joseph Church has lived through many incarnations.

The altar servers at St. Joseph Church are responsible for assisting the priest or priests in serving divine services, lighting candles, illuminating the way of processions, utilizing the processional fans, preparing incense, opening and closing the doors on the iconostas, holding the Gospel book during certain services, assisting in the distribution of communion, etc.

For people interested in becoming an altar server, please meet in the priests’ sacristy (to the left of the iconostas) at least fifteen minutes before a church service and talk to a member of the clergy. Sometimes a certain service will not need as much assistance, so the need to servers will be up to the discretion of the celebrating priest.
