But there is a truth that is the hardest to accept... It is the truth about ourselves.

Not in front of people, not in front of friends, and not even in prayer before God.

Humans have a strange tendency to justify themselves. We easily find explanations for our actions:
“I was tired,” “Circumstances were difficult,” “That’s just the way it is,” “That’s what everyone does,” etc.
We can explain almost everything. But it is very difficult to ask yourself another question:
What am I really like?
And it's even harder to answer honestly.
Because the hardest thing in life is to be alone with your conscience and admit the truth even when no one but you will hear it.
That's why researchers of human behavior have noticed an interesting thing: a person's character is best revealed not in big words or public actions.
It unfolds in the small, daily decisions we make when no one is controlling us.
And one of the most interesting examples of this is the so-called "trolley method."

Imagine a common situation.
A man is leaving a supermarket. He has already put his purchases in the car. An empty shopping cart is standing next to the car.
A few meters away there is a special place where these carts must be left.
And here is a small choice: turn the cart back
or just leave it in the parking lot. It would seem like a trifle.
But this moment is interesting because there is no reward for the right action., there is no punishment for wrong
Nobody is watching. No one will make any comments. No one will appreciate it.
And that's why this decision shows something very important.
The person who turns the cart around does so simply because it's the right thing to do. Because the cart could damage another car or block an adjacent parking space or road. And the person who leaves it in the middle of the parking lot often thinks:
“Someone else will clean up.” Someone gets paid for this, so why should I do it?
And so in This small decision reveals the inner order of man.
If you want to do business with someone, go shopping with them. If the person doesn't put the cart back in its place, be sure that they will leave you when you are no longer useful to them.

There is an old rule: if you want to understand a person, look at how they behave with a waiter or a salesperson.

Because true culture is not manifested in the attitude towards the strong, and in the attitude towards those who do not have power.

Sometimes it's enough to just listen to what a person is talking about.
Some people are constantly discussing others: who did what?, who is to blame, who is bad. They blame presidents, the government, the church, so as not to be left alone and not look into their own hearts..
Others talk about ideas, about plans, about goodness.
It is not for nothing that they say: Small people talk about people, medium people talk about events,
wise - about ideas.
- Truth test
Sometimes there is a temptation to change the truth a little.
For example: was late - but gave a different reason;
made a mistake - but shifted the blame onto someone else;
could lie - and no one would check.
At such moments, a silent test of conscience also occurs.
- Error test
There are people who are able to say:
"I was wrong."
And there are others who always find an explanation:
the circumstances are to blame, other people are to blame, Someone nearby is to blame.
Admitting your own mistake is one of the most difficult virtues.
- Power test
Sometimes it's enough to give a person even a little power and their character immediately becomes apparent.
Some begin to serve others, which happens extremely rarely. And mostly they start to demonstrate their importance.
The government reveals the real person very quickly.
- The "when no one is watching" test
This is probably the most important test.
Because a person's character is not what they show in front of people.
Character is what a person does when no one is looking.
And it is at such moments that conscience works.
