Luke 5:1-11
JESUS calls FISHERMAN
One day Jesus was by the lake. Many people wanted to hear Him. So they came so close to Him that it was difficult to speak! He saw some fishermen who had finished fishing. He asked Simon, one of them, to sail with him in the boat. Simon did so so that Jesus could speak to all people. When Jesus finished, he told Simon to go out into the sea. They did so. Then Jesus ordered Simon to catch fish in the sea. Simon told Jesus that they had been fishing all night and had caught none. He was certain that they would not catch anything now. But he obeyed Jesus and threw the net into the water.
Simon pulled out the net to get her out of the water. He pulled and pulled and pulled. ..It was impossible to believe! It was full of fish! Simon called his friends Jacob and Ivan in another boat to help. All the men raised the net and filled both boats! The boats were so full that they began to sink. Simon was scared. He realized that Jesus was a saint because he performed a miracle by causing the fish to fall into the net. Simon told Jesus to leave him because he was not holy.
Jesus answered Simon that he should not be afraid. He said that Simon should follow Him, that Simon would help people follow God instead of fishing. When the boats returned to the shore, the men left all their business and followed Jesus.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
1. Look at the image. Can you find Jesus?
2. Can you find the grid? They used a fishing net! The net was lowered into the water to catch fish.
3. Have you ever fished?
4. Sometimes you wait a very long time before you catch a fish. Simon fished all night and caught nothing.
5. What happened after Jesus told him to throw the nets back into the water?
6. Jesus told him that he would gather people to follow Jesus, just as he had caught fish.

He asked Simon, one of them, to take him out in his boat. Simon did, so Jesus could speak to all the people. When He stopped talking, Jesus told Simon to go out into the deep. They did. Then Jesus told Simon to go fishing. Simon told Jesus that they had been fishing all night and did not catch any fish. He did not think they would catch anyone now. But he obeyed Jesus and put his net in the water.
