"For the glory of God and future generations" - these words engraved on the granite stone of the Church of St. Joseph the Betrothed later became the creed for all organizations operating within the parish, and in particular for the School of Ukrainian Studies named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi.
According to historical sources and contemporary publications about the creation of the parish, it can be assumed that soon there was a need to found a school where children of parish families could learn their native language, learn grammar and other Ukrainian studies. The exact date of the establishment of the school has not been found.
It is known that in 1988 the building of the old church was transformed. From there, we learn that it was transformed into office premises, a branch of the Samopomich credit union, and already formed school classes. Of course, since that time, the number of students at the school has grown significantly.
With the growth of the new generation of emigrants and the modern wave of the diaspora, who care about the education and development of their children, their education and national upbringing in a religious spirit, the school becomes one of the main organizations operating in the parish.
The leaders and teaching staff of the school changed, the teaching style also changed, new ideas, regulations and class formation, new educational approaches dictated by modern requirements appeared.
Gradually, the popularity of the school grew - and the number of students and classes increased.
Currently, the School of Ukrainian Studies named after Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi is headed by the director Ms. Nina Danylyuk with a teaching staff of 19 people and more than 400 students.
The school program is designed for 11 years of study (from preschool to 10th grade).
Saturday classes are held from 9 am to 1:15 pm. The following subjects are taught at the school:
religion,
Ukrainian language (writing, grammar, speech development),
Ukrainian literature (reading),
history, geography, culture of Ukraine.
Junior school students also have singing lessons.
Every year, school holidays are held, which have acquired an extremely interesting cultural and educational development, national educational character and aesthetic color. Various events, integrated lessons-meetings and school excursions are also held for schoolchildren.
The main goal of the school of Ukrainian studies is to study the Ukrainian language, provide students with knowledge about history and culture, traditions of the Ukrainian people, and spiritual enrichment.
We strive to give children the opportunity to maintain and improve the level of Ukrainian language skills, to increase the circle of Ukrainian-speaking friends, to become more familiar with the catechesis of the church "for the glory of God and future generations."
