Archangel Michael

Archangel Michael

By +Fr. Tom Glynn

He will give His angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways on their hands they will bear you up lest you dash a foot against a stone. (Ps. 91:10-11)

In the Liturgy we are reminded of one of the principal activities of the angelic powers; “there stand before You thousands of archangels, and myriad of angels, cherubim and seraphim, singing proclaiming and shouting a hymn of victory.”  Many of us seek their intercession at the beginning of the day or at the start of a journey.  At our Baptism a prayer was said for us: “give him (her) a shining angel to save him (her) from every attack of the evil one”.  In the Liturgy we pray; “for an angel of peace, a faithful guide and guardian for our souls and bodies”.

As the leader of Angelic Powers on high, Michael calls us to this feast.  He is always at our side and preserves us from every attack of the devil.  Let us venerate the feast of the Archangel, as he stands unceasingly before God interceding for our souls to be saved.
